T.E.A.R.S Episode 21 – Another World

It’s been a while, but now I’m back with a new episode of T.E.A.R.S.! In this episode, I take a look at Eric Chahi’s videogaming masterpiece that is Another World (known in the US as Out Of This World).

Developed by Eric Chahi himself and published by Delphine Software back in 1991, Another World became an instant hit thanks to its amazing art direction, challenging gameplay and superb (and quite frankly scary!) setting. The game sees you playing as Lester Chaykin who, due to an experiment gone horrbly wrong, ends up in a strange hostile alien world filled with war and slavery. Can he escape this nightmare and make it back home, or will he die trying?

Yeah well deserved 5/5. Potty boy what’s your fave game out of Another world or Flashback?

Tough call! Both are excellent games, but I’m probably gonna go with Another World because although Flashback had better story and gameplay, Another World has wonderful art direction and an incredible atmosphere. It just ‘feels’ better.

Yeah they both have there different plus points but your right another world definitely has the stronger atmosphere and more cinematic cutscenes. Flash backs a much longer game with less frustrating gameplay. But both totally fantastic I can never quite decide which one I like the best.

That intro is incredible. Really incredibly; even down to the music. So subtle but really moody.

Got to agree about the animation and art direction. It almost looks like it has been painted at some points.

The only downside I would say with this game is the difficulty. Most sections I managed to complete via dying multiple times rather than through skill or exploration. Still really playable and fun though.
