Episode-8-Cover

The Retro Asylum Podcast is back! It may be a few days late but we are back with more retro goodness.

In today’s episode your hosts are Andy and Glenn.

Episode 8 of the Retro Asylum Podcast is slightly different as the whole show is one massive topic, which is entitled “rose-tinted glasses”.

The lads discuss all the machines they have owned, the first few games they really got in to, the first games they finished, and loads more Retro nostalgia

Also in today’s episode the Retro Asylum Podcast has its first guest host… the one, the only Denaris from the Retro Asylum community. Denaris tells us all about his retro gaming memories.

All that plus loads more… plus the best outtake at the end of the podcast ever!

Great podcast really liked it 🙂
Ive never completed Out Run on the C64 but i finished Bruce Lee and Commando
I think the first game they moaned about the violence was Splatterhouse 2 on the megadrive then Night Trap and Mortal Kombat.
Alot of the Playstation and Saturn games havent aged well at all i think the 2d games look alot better.

    • Andy says:

Glad you liked the podcast mate,

I think the thing is the 32bit games haven’t aged well graphically but that was just down to the early tec, but playability wise it’s still up there with the best of them:)

Yeah I completely forgot to mention Splatter house 2, funny enough it was one of the reason most kids wanted it because of the gore, I got because of that and loved it:)

I think it’s a case with the advancing tec, the better the tec gets, the more realistic things appear but vilence in gaming has been around for yonks.,,super Mario is a turtle killer lol

Glad you liked the show mate an looking forward I having you on the retro asylum podcast;)

That house is exactly what you need mate. It will give you your own room to use as your private space for doing your now and then gaming related stuff, the baby will have it’s own room so when he/she gets older they have the room to do what they want in.

You have the other room for you and the wife too. It’s exactly what you need mate and the sooner you get in there the better.

It’s great that you decided to quit smoking when you did as your child will have quite the healthy lifestyle whilst they are growing up not smelling any of the multiple drugs within the cigarettes and stuff as everyone who has newborn kids has to be responsible to what they do around them obviously which may mean having to go to the pub if you want a drink as well.

    • Andy says:

Haha it’s funny you say that about having my own gaming room, that’s exactly what I had planned, even my wife had agreed to it…….but now my gaming room will be the baby nursery lol

So it’s bye bye gaming room lol

The other spare room is gonna be a office/ slash guest room.

Don’t have much time for gong now a days, I play most of my “beat a game a week” at work during lunch break, at home don’t really play much because when my mrs is around I hang out with her instead.

But wheres there a will there’s a way and I will find a way some how to play retro games and also to the podcast as I actually prefer doing that than going to the pub.

Smoking wise I’m glad I’ve given up and drinking I’m not usually a big drinker but a glass of wine is ok with a meal:)

      • TEOL says:

Yeah, it was definitely the right time for the smoking mate with the baby coming and everything. Enjoy your new home as it sounds like a nice place if it’s true that your house is really custom built.

Jungle Music was the big thing in our days of the early 90s no wonder why you were playing retro games whilst listings to Jungle Denaris, although I was born in the middle 80s which was the back end of the Disco and start of the Euro pop and rock era.

    • Andy says:

Ooh nearly forgot to say a big thanks to Denarias for his segment on this episode, Matt really touched upon some great subjects/topics and memories

I think Matt aka Denaris did a great job and we Defiently need to get him back for a full episode, just need to figure out when and how:)

      • Dean Swain says:

I totally agree, it seems that Matt has a very similar gaming background to my own (for example starting off with the Atari 2600, then the Speccy and being an Amiga boy rather than the Megadrive & SNES player) and I found his piece very interesting indeed and I think he would make a great full time host.

  4. Glenn says:

Thank for fantastic chat about our gaming history andy I really enjoyed it I laughing at myself and you lol thanks Matt for your part of the podcast i enjoyed listen to you and i feel the someway as you you can explain it well hope to get you back soon

  5. den.aris says:

Thanks for the comments. Andy said about 10 mins and I couldn’t believe how quickly I filled it! Would love to be on it again for a full show, bouncing off the others. Swainy, don’t think the 2600 is a big part of my history, I hardly remember it 😉

    Great show as always.

  6. Andy says:

Would be good to get you on for a full show mate, we will sort something out:)

  7. Damien says:

Fantastic podcast as always guys, brings back a lot of memories hearing you talking about those old machines and buying budget games (which like most people were my main stream of software). Hehe I also see you used my interlude, sounds a bit odd listening to it but apart from that I really enjoyed this show!

Good luck with the house move Andy, Lucy and I are currently in the process of buying somewhere ourselves so I know only too well the fun and games involved! Great news you’re becoming a dad too, I suspect you’ll have your hands full for a bit once he or she arrives but I’m sure you’ll still find time to pop in on the retro scene and of course in a few years time you’ll be able to introduce them to all these wonderful old computer systems!

    • Andy says:

Yeah you will notice I’m using your voice sample in the next podcast too:)

Budget gaming was a god send, so many choices and also loads of fantastic software houses that worked their magic at great prices, I’m gonna have to episode on budget games.

Hope it all goes well with the house for you and Lucy, it’s been a right pain for my wife and I,the house was meant to be ready before Xmas ad 2 months on its finally built.
It will be worth it though.

I’m sure once the baby is born it will be tougher for me record these podcasts but I’m sure I will find a way.
