Episode 2 – The Master of Unlocking

Welcome back to the second episode of the Retro Asylum Podcast!

Today your two retromaniac hosts are Glenn83100 and Andy and they’re here with best in retro gaming chit chat (and cats and hamsters).

The lads tell us what they’ve been up to – Andy has been to the vet with his cat and has also bought a house. Glenn has been to a birthday party and eaten the mini pizzas and has also been playing Bomberman.

There’s also retro news, the game of the month is Resident Evil, the console of the month is the N64 and music of the month is Matt Gray’s classic tune from Last Ninja 2.

And also Andy comes up with a new section called Knowing Me Knowing You, that doesn’t quite go to plan.

All this plus loads more.

So stick the kettle on, put your feet up and listen to the best retro gaming podcast out there.

Well done guys, loved it as always. Very entertaining and how good was that Rastan tune at the end eh?

  2. TEOL says:

Where are the bloody Rouge Traders from BBC when you need them? That would make great TV on Watchdog. Especially the end of season one where the police make the arrest of these criminals. 😀

  3. TEOL says:

I may give the real Daytona USA a go on MAMEHub for fun.

  4. TEOL says:

I just thought about it. Why not make an English version of Kunio Tachi No Banka the official Japanese version of Renegade 2 re-skin it with characters from Target Renegade. Make the graphics all spectrum like.

Bang there is a Target Renegade 2 made from Target Renegade “Unofficial Renegade 2” & Kunio Tachi No Banka “Official Renegade 2”

      Not a bad idea:)

But I think back in the day we would have just been happy for another 2 player beat em even if all it had was different backgrounds, music and few new moves.

But we got lumbered with the crappy final chapter

  5. AspergerGamer64 says:

    really enjoy it guys

  6. Chris says:

Very entertaining stuff chaps. Really enjoyed the Resident Evil chat. It was the first game i played for my Playstation and, after coming from an Amiga, it felt like the biggest leap forward in what a game can do is my lifetime so far. Glenn, i’m guessing you were stuck on the ridiculous part where you have to open the books in your inventory to get those medals? Had me stuck for weeks. Andy, i’d definitely advise you to invest in the Gamecube remake. Looks outstanding and lots of tweaks and changes from the original. Just a shame they didn’t go on to do the same for the sequels, which were just direct copies of the Playstation versions.

Request for music would be Double Dragon 2 on the C64.

  7. Andy says:

    Glad you liked the podcast.

Im gonna have to get myself a gamescube and a copy of resident evil.
But before I do that I have to get myself a new n64:)

As for the music request consider it done.
    Which track?

    Thanks for listening

Another great show listerning to it again now Resident evil is a great game but the UK and US version were censored unlike the Jap Biohazard theres videos on youtube showing the uncut intros and in game movies.
Last Ninja 2 on the C64 is the best version evern the music is better than it is on the amiga.
Daytona USA on the Xbox 360 is the best raceing game ive ever played brilliant and its 800 ms points i thought it would be more than that.
Ive never owned a N64 or played Mario 64,Back to the Future is a great film ive got all three on DVD but i like the first the best there was a new game of BTF but i dont think it came out and wasnt on the 360 maybe im wrong.

    • Andy says:

I didn’t know that about the japanese version of resident evil. I’m gonna check it out now on YouTube

Last ninja 2 was epic on the c64 it worked well on and suited it, unlike when if came out on the Nes, which felt clunky and looked a bit drab.

Daytona is awesome, might by it around Xmas:)

Mario 64 is just amazing, truley fantastic 3d cameras even playfulness now
A days struggle with the camera but good old nintendo got it just right.
Tons if gameplay on Mario 64

    • Glenn says:

Hi malc good to hear from you I think there was directors cut to of resident evil on the PlayStation that had different stuff to the original game i love to see what Japans version like

  9. ZXSpecstar says:

Great podcast guys and glad to hear you again Glenn and im loving the new randomness of your show lol

Yes Mario 64 still kicks ass today you would of thought with a lot of companies making new versions of their games simply scaling them out just think how awesome mario 64 would be with mario galaxies graphics engine

And my moment form resident evil was when Jill saw the tyrant she screams and hides like a baby, Chris Redfield just looks at him and laughs and offers it outside

    Chris Redfield is the man
