Prince of the Yolkfolk HD Remake! – iPhone review!

After what seems like a life time, The Olivers Twins creation is back, in the remake HD version of Prince of the yolkfolk!

For those of you that are familiar with POTYF is was one of Dizzy’s smaller adventure games!

So how does this HD remake look and feel?

Well the graphics have been given a lovely lick of paint the game looks like a nicer more colourful version of the Amiga game.

The new Dizzy sprite Looks different to the Speccy Sprite but that not a bad thing, as he still looks as cute as ever with a big smile waving his little red boxing gloves and somersaulting all over the place.

Control wise, this game does take a while to get used, Dizzy is controlled via the iPhones touch screen with a arrows
Left, left jump,up jump, right jump and also a button you press to talk and to interact with characters or objects.

Gameplay wise mostly everything is the same apart from the fact that you don’t get lives.(for those who remember the interview I did with Oliver Twins, they mentioned why have lives in a game) originally I thought by having no lives was going to dilute the game, but it was the exact opposite, it actually took the frustration levels right down and it made the game even more enjoyable.

The game overall is Eggcellent and feels great to have Dizzy back, my only complaint is that it would have been nice to have the original ZX Spectrum version hiddden as a unlockable Easter EGG!

Final thoughts!
It’s great to have Dizzy back and hopefully this won’t be the last we will see of the eggy one, as this game although short is a perfect nostalgia trip down memory lane.

Great game and big thanks to the Oliver Twins and Codemaster for making this happen:)

Long live Dizzy Prince of the Yolkfolk!

I love this game on the Amiga. I like all the Dizzy games. Some are better than others but overall it’s a great series and hopefully in the future they will make more of them. I like Glenn’s new Dizzy game that he made.

I’ve played through this Dizzy game quite a few times already, it’s a great game that you can pick up and play as it’s easy to complete and also has a save slot.

I would like to see this on xbox as it would be fun getting achievements:)

I did read some where the programmer who made this said he designed the game using a certain programme where it could be easily ported to other machines:)

I was hoping you could get a few hidden Easter eggs in this game such as old skool graphics, art work, making off ect

    But all oh well:)

Looks like a great version and with no lives sounds like it’s the best version of this game.

Things that put it down are dogey control system and the logos for it being too large so it blocks the picture quite a lot.

Should have included a mode to play it on the keypad really and a logos off mode to go with the alternative control system.

The keypad would mean you get the faster reactions needed to move dizzy quickly like in the originals which would have made it even better than it is and with the keypad controls there would be the need to large annoying logos on the screen.

Overall I’d say it’s worth it as its a good game anyway control and logos gripes aside plus unlimited lives makes it great as dizzy is supposed to be puzzling not taxing as well with a lives system game.

I’ve currently got a love-hate relationship going on with this game. It’s does so much right, but I’m constantly wrestling with the controls and the collision detection. Still worth the money though.

Yay i got this goignon my android at last and im more thanhappy with the game and the removal of lives and introduction of being put back is a great idea because on the originals there was nothing as frustrating as getting nearly to the end of the game then die only to be left a gibbering wreck becasue you got so close….well thats what happened to me any way with magic land dizzy. A great game for the mobile phone market and a good price, felt like i was buying the original all over again.

If this works well for Dizzy lets bring back all the other code masters calssics like Seymore and CJ

Bought and finished this on my Xperia Play, having the physical controls helps quite a bit, dont like the poor use of the buttons for pick up/talk/use though would have liked them separate but hey ho. Loved the music. Fingers crossed for more dizzy-remakes!
